Mr. Destin is a Crosby native. He graduated from Crosby High School with a full scholarship in football to Ranger Junior College. He attended Prairie View A&M where he received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master's degree in Educational Administration.
Before coming to Crosby I.S.D., Mr. Destin had the opportunity to work at Houston I.S.D. teaching Health and Physical Education. While working there, he improved Houston ISD's teacher training programs, with an emphasis on fostering a best-practice based collaborative culture that has, at its center, the ultimate goal of heightening achievement for all students.
As the Assistant Principal at Crosby High School, Mr. Destin is deeply committed to improving academic achievement and life long learning skills for all students. He has a special interest and expertise in curriculum and instruction best practices that support the unique learning needs of students from multi-cultural and socially diverse backgrounds.
During his tenure, Mr. Destin received many honors such as the “Hallmark of Excellence Award” and “Top Teens Educator Award.” He was also nominated as the “Newcomer of the Year” for two years while coaching the Junior Varsity Basketball team. He is the author of “I Think Myself Happy,” a motivational memoir geared toward young students. He has personal and professional experience with developing and implementing strategies that connect students to their peers, school, and interests. Through his 14 years of teaching and accomplishments, he has gained deep knowledge regarding best practices in teaching and learning for students from diverse backgrounds, including strategies that narrow the achievement gap for students to reach for the stars.
Mr. Destin has experience and success in organizing and facilitating collaborative conversations. He believes strongly in modeling respect and fairness, two traits that he expects of others with whom he works. He is always open to new and “outside the box” thinking.
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, practicing real estate, tending to his horses, and Sunday night football.
