One of my jobs as school counselor is to help students succeed academically and socially. Sometimes students experience life events that can have a negative impact on their academic and social success in school. Events such as divorce, sickness, death in the family and many others can have a profound affect on a child. Individual counseling can offer the child a safe place to talk about his or her feelings and how to cope with those life events.
When students are struggling to get along successfully with their peers, working in a small group can help students practice and experience positive relationships with other students. Small group counseling can be used in a number of ways to help improve student relationships which will have a positive impact on their school success.
