| Crosby FFA Hosts Annual Ag. Adventure Day
On Friday, April 11, 2008, over 50 members of the Crosby FFA Chapter hosted the 7th Annual Ag. Adventure Day held at the Crosby Kindergarten Campus. Approximately 400 kindergarten students had a chance to enjoy numerous fun and educational activities regarding agriculture.
Students had the opportunity to attend a Mobile Dairy classroom where they learned all about dairy cattle and the process of getting milk from a cow to the shelf at their local grocery store. They also had the chance to plant their own flower seed and take it back to their classroom to continue to water and watch it grow. Students enjoyed snacking on various fruits, vegetables and snow cones before letting off some energy on a moonwalk, and of course, a visit by “Ms. Moo” on the ever-popular hayride made the event even more exciting.
Local community members also assisted the FFA chapter by volunteering their time and services to help make the day a huge success. Among those were the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department, brining a fire truck, and Cloverleaf Volunteer Fire Department, bringing a simulated fire house that allowed kindergarten students the chance to learn how to crawl out of a burning home. The Wetlands Center of Baytown also contributed by bringing wildlife species such as various snakes, millipedes, and even an alligator for students to view and touch if they dared. Joi Sebastian entertained the students with her trained sheep dog expertise, and Susan Pohorily provided miniature horses and cattle to add to the excitement of the ever-popular petting zoo.
The members of the Crosby FFA chapter were excited to host this event for the Crosby Kindergarten students. Students gained tons of knowledge dealing with agriculture life in an enjoyable and educational setting. With the help of CKC teachers and staff, as well as local community members, the 7th Annual Ag. Adventure Day proved to be a tremendous success. Crosby FFA would like to extend many thanks to all who assisted in making this event possible.
