October Focus: Drug Awareness · Student Council representatives designed posters that expressed their feelings on being drug free. · Each Student Council representative planted in the Growing Garden of the school a red tulip bulb which will bloom in the Spring, reminding them of their ‘promise’ to be Drug Free!
November Focus: Thanksgiving Food Drive · Student Council representatives designed posters to remind students to bring canned goods for our Thanksgiving Baskets. · Each Student Council representative designed a Thanksgiving box for collection of canned foods. · Student Council representatives serve as greeters for our special guests during the Veterans Day program.
December Focus: Performing for Community · Student Council representatives will perform for Mountbatten House, an assisted living home. This has been a yearly project. Students will sing and then have a social time to spend with the residents. Students enjoy talking to the residents about their childhood memories and especially how they spent their Christmas when they were children. · Student Council will also perform at the Community Center for their Winter Wonderland and for the Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. Members will be a part of the annual Christmas Parade. · Student Council Lock-In will be during December. This is a favorite of all the members to be ’locked in the school’ from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. The time is spent on completing projects for the upcoming year, electing Student Council officers and getting to know each other better.
January Focus: School Board Appreciation · Student Council will present personal gifts to each Board Member in Appreciation of their dedication to the education of our students.
February Focus: Valentine Flower Sales · Student Council members will pre-sale carnations to help fund our Scholarship for graduating Seniors. Our goal is to sell 1300 carnations!
March Focus: Relay for Life · Students participate in activities to help draw awareness to finding a cure for cancer. · Student Council makes Easter cards for children at Texas Children’s Hospital.
April Focus: TAKS · Student Council leads our in a TAKS Pep Rally. Student Council participates in the local Colleen Walker Relays and Relay for Life.
May Focus: · Student Council helps at Park Play Days selling refreshments. All proceeds go to the Senior Scholarship Fund for graduating Seniors. · Student Council gives Teacher Appreciation gifts and cards to all teachers and staff of NES. |
