Forty-five Student Council representatives anxiously awaited the Dec. 11th StuCo Lock-In! During the hours between 7 p.m. Friday the 11th and 7 a.m. Saturday morning the 12th, there were two service projects completed for Texas Children’s Hospital, a service project for our military, school spirit projects, and personal goal setting. For seven years NES StuCo has created Christmas cards and Valentine cards for patients at Texas Children’s Hospital. This continued dedication is due to compassion for NES students who have been and who currently are patients in Texas Children’s Hospital taking cancer treatments, dialysis, and combating other illnesses. Letters were also written to a homebound NES teacher awaiting a kidney transplant. Cards and letters were written to a former Student Council member who is recovering from leukemia. TAKS posters of encouragement were made for the spring and letters of affirmation were written to fellow StuCo members and on-line notes of encouragement were sent to military members via www.LetsSayThanks.com Each StuCo member set personal goals for not only the present year but for high school and college, and carers. Ways to reach those goals were noted. StuCo members created a StuCo Gallery of personal information including favorite colors, subject, music, etc. to be shared with others. StuCo officers were elected! Several boxes of pizza, cups of hot cocoa with marshmallows and juice boxes were consumed.
