Fall Salute 2024
Crosby, TX (Tuesday, December 3) - The Crosby ISD Board of Trustees held a special night of recognitions to shine the spotlight on students, staff, and organizations that have accomplished so much over the past 4 months.
CHOIR
The CHS choir program has achieved many accomplishments in the Fall semester of the 2024-25 school year. In the past 3 years the program has more than doubled in student participation. They had an extremely successful Fall Concert, performed for the Homecoming Football game, and had the honor of participating in the Veterans Day Ceremony. Additionally, 55 choir members competed at the district level of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State competition. 14 students made the Region Choir; out of those 14 students, 7 are moving on to the State Level of the competition including:
- Manuel Cavazos
- Jarleen Torres
- Kristabriel White
- Hailee Moore
- Brianna Pecina
- Phillip Ball
- Eduardo Palomo
They are looking forward to being one of the only programs in Crosby to take 4 competing groups to the UIL competition this Spring. A big congratulation to all of the success the CHS Choir Program has accomplished thus far!
CROSS COUNTRY
This year was an amazing year for Cross Country. Coach Barnes says “I enjoyed every second of coaching each and every one of my athletes. Every meet my athletes gave great effort and great sportsmanship.”
Ivan Armendariz placed at every meet we had and received 2nd team all district honors.
Ethan Escobar was also a standout freshman, he placed top 10 in a varsity meet this year.
Coach Barnes would like to thank each and everyone of his athletes for being coachable and respectful to me and other adults. Also Coach Barnes would like to thank the parents for coming out to support every meet and supplying the kids with drinks and snacks.

TENNIS
The 2024 Fall Tennis season was a big turnaround for us as a team. We became a team that nobody in the district could overlook. We won more games this year than any year in the past 10 seasons, narrowly missing the playoffs. Led by Seniors Jorge Arauz, Miranda Perez and Daisy Palacios who earned 1st team All District honors and Seniors Patricio Salazar and Zeidy (pronounced Zaydee) Boquin who earned 2nd Team All District honors. The Cougars also had 7 students make their way onto the Academic All District Team, Jorge Arauz, Patricio Salazar, Manuel Cavazos, Ella Jones, Damian Alonso, Maya Fuentes Logan and Zach Zepeda.
Coach Olmsted and all of us at Crosby ISD are super proud of these students, and we are excited to see what is in store for them in the future.

JROTC
Since early September, the JROTC battalion has grown to 165 cadets. Congratulations to the 22 cadets here today that represent the best from each period with a year-to-date JROTC grade of 100%.
Our most senior of this select group is Major K’Shaunique Heyliger whose proactive, natural, innovative, and positive leadership ensured her team of cadet inspectors prepared the 165 cadets in JROTC for the Federal Inspection. The standards she implemented as the pioneer for this new team of cadet inspectors will be used indefinitely in JROTC.
Our next most senior of this select group is Captain Jennakah Villasenor who volunteered as an after school only cadet responsible for not only participating in all teams after school practices and key events but also led the JROTC Community Emergency Response Team to their first cadet-led and cadet-run CERT certification.
Our three 1st Lieutenants Brzezinski, Sanchez, and Watkins have proven that there are multiple routes to reaching the top in JROTC. First, 1st Lieutenant Brzezinski: She has won every marksmanship competition and leadership award while simultaneously holding with exceptional performance the 4th highest cadet position in the JROTC organization. Second, 1st Lieutenant Sanchez: She has served with distinction at every imaginable level in JROTC and graduating with a full spectrum of experience to run and manage any organization. Finally, 1st Lieutenant Watkins has been #1 in every and anything that she does in JROTC. Truly the epitome of a role model for all cadets to follow.
Our most senior enlisted cadet Sergeant Major Samantha Diaz has been a marksmanship team superstar commander and performer since middle school. She has not only won every marksmanship competition and leadership award since she joined the program as a middle school cadet, but she has also been responsible for the program’s spotless record of 100% each year on their annual federal marksmanship inspection.
We congratulate all the other cadets represented tonight. Each represents the epitome of knowing, meeting, and exceeding all JROTC standards and each represents the best in each JROTC period. They are now on the fast track in JROTC, and we can’t wait to see their progression in the 2nd semester and through the rest of the program. We congratulate all cadets as well as JROTC instructors: Lieutenant Colonel Troy Reeves and Sergeant Allen Rollins.
FOOTBALL
Now to saluting the members of the Crosby High School football team. Cougar football finished 3rd in district 11-5A with a 5-2 district record and qualified for the playoffs. Our only losses were to teams that were also playoff contenders.
It was an exciting year for our seniors who worked hard to get our program back to the playoffs. We are proud of our seniors and excited for our younger players as we bring back 17 underclassmen who started for us at some point during the season and saw both our JV and Freshman teams finish with winning records in district play.
Among our coaching staff, we have 5 Crosby High School alumni who returned to help guide our team on the sidelines. Thank you to them and Athletic Director / Head Coach Joe Willis.
BAND
What a fall it’s been for the Crosby High School Band.
The Big Red Machine performed at the Houston Dash professional soccer team, numerous Crosby ISD and community events, and earned their 13th year of consecutive Division 1’s at UIL marching contest.
The band also took 1st place for a second year at the Galena Park ISD Marching Contest, and advanced to the State Military Marching Band Contest for a second year, making finals and taking 4th in the state!
In October, our band attended a concert by the United States Army Band. This Thursday, our band will perform inside the state capitol rotunda in Austin.
Congratulations to the student-musicians, their parents, and our Director of Bands, Mr. Kevin Knight, as well as Assistant Band Director, Mr. Sanchez, and percussion expert, Mr. Truong.
Kudos to the sponsors and coaches who spend more time with our students than they do with their own families. And parents who devoted time, money, and many weekends and weeknights watching games, volunteering at concession stands, driving students to and from events. Tonight, we hope we helped make it clear it was all worth it.
