Gifted and Talented

Overview

Crosby ISD Gifted and Talented programming is aligned to the expectations of the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.

What is a Gifted and Talented Student?

The state's goal for G/T students is to ensure that students who participate in G/T services demonstrate self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication skills. G/T students develop innovative products and sophisticated performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are targeted to an audience outside the classroom.

A gifted/talented student is a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who

  • exhibits high-performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;
  • possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or
  • excels in a specific academic field. (Texas Education Code §29.121)

G/T Services

  • Elementary
    • Crosby ISD Gifted and Talented (G/T) students participate in a Pull-Out model, where they are pulled from their regular classroom for up to one hour to engage in specialized G/T lessons and projects. This dedicated time emphasizes enrichment, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, offering students opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge. It also prepares them for the District G/T Expo, held each year in May.

  • Secondary
    • Crosby ISD Gifted and Talented (G/T) students are provided with opportunities to enroll in Honors, AP, and Dual Credit courses throughout their middle and high school years. These advanced courses are designed to challenge students academically and are taught by teachers who are specifically trained in G/T instruction. The curriculum is carefully aligned with G/T strategies to ensure that students are not only receiving a rigorous education but are also engaged in critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and independent learning. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn college credit upon successful completion of AP and Dual Credit courses.
