Attendance/Truancy

Attendance Matters

Attendance

Regular school attendance is a critical factor in student achievement and long-term success. When students are present and engaged, they build strong academic foundations, develop essential social skills, and form meaningful connections with their school community. Consistent attendance ensures students have access to high-quality instruction, support services, and enrichment opportunities that contribute to their growth. As a district, we are committed to partnering with families to promote daily attendance, reduce barriers, and create a culture where every day in school matters.

What to do if your Child is Absent from School

If your child is unable to attend school, it is important to notify the campus as soon as possible. Parents or guardians should contact the school office on the day of the absence and provide a written note or documentation upon the student’s return. Excused absences may include illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other reasons in accordance with district policy. Prompt communication helps us accurately record attendance, ensure student safety, and support academic success.

Truancy

In Texas, regular school attendance is required by Texas Education Code §25.085, which states that students ages 6–18 must attend school each day that instruction is provided. Truancy occurs when a student has unexcused absences without a valid reason as defined by state law and district policy. Unexcused absences can impact academic progress and may result in legal consequences for students and/or parents.

Our district is committed to working with families to address attendance concerns early, remove barriers to regular attendance, and ensure students have the support they need to be successful. Consistent attendance is a shared responsibility and an essential part of every student’s path to achievement.
