Cougar Stadium Turf & Track Updates
December 2, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Construction crews are finalizing the work on the turf and track replacement at Cougar Stadium. The final phase of the project includes resurfacing the areas of the track that needed to be replaced due to wear and tear. We’re happy to report the track resurfacing will be complete soon, and all re-striping will be completed in time for the soccer season.

Sunday, August 18 (Crosby, TX) - Last week, crews installed the Cougar logo as well as the 50-yard line on the field. The numbers are cut out of white turf stencils then placed on to the field by a combination of sewing and gluing. The green turf is shaved down to fit the numbers '5' and '0' perfectly into the field.
Tuesday, August 13 (Crosby, TX) - Another milestone today! Crews have installed the Cougar Logo at the 50-yard line at Cougar Stadium. We are less than a month from the first home football game where our student-athletes will play on the new turf for the first time.
Monday, August 12 (Crosby, TX) - The 2024-25 school year is a year of construction in Crosby ISD. Cougar Stadium is undergoing a major renovation with turf and track replacement.
TURF
The district is replacing the original turf field at Cougar Stadium. The new turf will be sturdier, stronger, more shock absorbent, and safer for student-athletes. The new turf is also more heat-resistant than the original turf, feeling about 35 degrees cooler on average than the original turf. The old turf was removed starting in June. The new turf started to be installed in August, with completion expected before the first Crosby High School home football game on September 6. Today, August12, crews installed CROSBY in one of the end zones. It's exciting to be one step closer to a new playing surface.
For some background on turf replacement: turf has a useful life of 8 to 10 years. The turf being replaced was first installed in 2013. The central Cougar head logo was changed in 2016. There are numerous variables that determine the useful life of turf, such as the amount of use the field gets and how often it is groomed. One of the main reasons for needing to change turf is the safety of the players. As turf ages, the GMAX rating, the ability of the playing surface to absorb the “shock,” or kinetic energy from a collision, increases and places players at a higher risk of injury and concussions.
TRACK
The district is also replacing the track at Cougar Stadium. Right now, crews are excavating dirt on each side of the track to eventually install a 5-foot concrete apron. The concrete apron around the perimeter of the track will improve drainage and stabilize the outer edge of the track. The concrete apron is expected to be poured during the last week of August. The final process of replacing the track will be finalized following the conclusion of the football season.
