December 20, 2024 Update - The Crosby High School expansion project remains on track for a fall 2025 opening. "Everything is going according to plan," said Mr. J.P. Grom, Project Manager with LAN, during a briefing update to the Crosby ISD Board of Trustees on Monday, December 16, 2024. The CHS expansion project consists of three major aspects of the work. 1. Underground water detention which is located on the northwest corner of the CHS campus. 2. Building A which is the new academic wing. 3. Building B which is the expansion of the CTE (Career and Technical Education) Center.
1. Underground detention will capture and hold rainwater and meet storm water runoff guidelines. The area hatched at the top left in the photograph will be blocked during part of Crosby ISD's Winter Break. The area will be blocked for one week as crews complete the underground detention project.
2. Building A. The future academic wing is currently covered with exterior sheeting or yellow panelling. This is the first step for enclosing and weather-proofing the building. Once the yellow sheeting is finished, there will be a waterproof membrane applied over the sheeting. Most classrooms are now framed, and crews are 95% compete with drywall installation.
3. Building B. The expansion of the CTE center features concrete masonry walls. These walls are designed to handle the demands and stressors of carpentry and welding labs. The attached photo shows a future carpentry lab under construction.
In addition, this project is turning an unused LGI (Large Group Instruction) space inside the current structure of CHS into two classrooms. Those additional classrooms will be available for use in February 2025.
The project continues to meet all deadlines and all budget targets.

December 1, 2024 Update - This time next year, students will be learning in the 32 new classrooms and 8 labs inside what we call “Building A” of the expansion. We’ll also see welding and woodworking being taught in the new welding and carpentry labs that are part of “Building B.” Buildings A and B comprise the two components of the expansion on the southside of CHS. Building A is the new academic wing that will increase classroom space inside CHS by 50%. Building B is an expansion of the current CTE (Career and Technical Education) Center. We are happy to report the project remains on track for a Fall 2025 opening, and the expansion is meeting all budget targets.
The expansion does not only include the new additions, but we were able to find additional classroom space inside the current structure of Crosby High School. During a tour of the facilities last school year, the administration team found an unfinished LGI (Large Group Instruction) room on the second floor of CHS that was being used for storage. Now, as part of the overall project for the new high school addition, we are converting that storage space into additional classrooms. We are finding every possible space available to enhance the learning experience of the 2000+ students at CHS.

On November 1, crews completed the final concrete pour for the second floor of the new Crosby High School academic wing. The entire CHS expansion project remains on track for an opening in the fall of 2025. So far, crews have used 2300 cubic yards of cement, 90 tons of rebar, and 360 tons of steel for the project that will increase classroom and lab space by 50% at CHS. There are two components to the expansion. The new academic wing and an expansion of the CTE (Career and Technical Education) Center to build additional welding and carpentry labs.

The Crosby High School expansion remains on track for an opening in the fall of 2025. Crews have used 2300 cubic yards of cement, 90 tons of rebar, and 360 tons of steel for the project, adding a new academic wing and an expanded CTE Center. We wanted to share the latest drone video flying high above the Crosby High School expansion. The steel structure you see in the video will be the new academic wing, while the concrete slab will the expanded CTE (Career and Technical Education) Center. The addition to the CTE Center will contain more carpentry and welding labs. The new academic wing will house 32 classrooms and 8 labs, increasing classroom space at CHS by 50%. District and campus leaders have started to plan for the equipment needs and furniture requirements for each space. The CHS additions are expected to open in November 2025.

There is a lot of steel moving at the construction site this week. Crews installed the stairwell of the new academic wing at Crosby High School as well as enclosing most of the floor on the second story. Steel was delivered and construction began on the CTE addition as well.

The first foundation you see is for the CTE center expansion, adding more welding and carpentry labs. September 22, 2024 Update
Since the last update, the new academic wing has moved several steps forward. Construction crews built the pier and beam foundation in August, poured the foundation on September 7th, and are now in the process of installing steel columns. It’s exciting to see the new spaces come to life for future learning opportunities. In the expanded CTE center, students will have more room to pursue their dreams in the fields of carpentry and welding. The overall expansion project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025, with an opening for the spring semester in the 2025-26 school year. The additions will increase classroom space inside CHS by 50%, adding 32 new classrooms and 8 new labs.
September 17, 2024 Update
Early this morning, construction crews lifted the first steel girder into place for the future addition to Crosby High School. The new academic wing is expected to open in the fall of 2025, adding capacity to CHS of more than 900 additional students.

A crane is moving steel into place on the slab for the new academic wing. The foundation was poured last weekend. The new wing will increase classroom space by 50% at Crosby High School, adding 32 classrooms and 8 labs.

August 28, 2024 Update
August 28, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - There is more progress to report about the expansion of Crosby High School. Concrete has been poured to create the pier and beam structure that will support the new academic wing. The underground water detention that was installed in the northwest corner of the CHS campus is also nearing completion.

August 6, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Crews are preparing to drill the pier and beam foundation for the new academic wing at CHS. When this project is completed in fall 2025, classroom space will increase by 50%.
As we approach the new school year, please note there are 3 construction zones at CHS.

- Expanded CTE center (south side of CHS)
- Underground water detention (northwest corner of campus along Red Summit Drive)
The underground water detention is part of the overall expansion project. Crews are moving tons of earth each day, but there should not be major impacts to the traffic flow. We ask for grace and patience during the process.

July 29, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Tonight, Superintendent Patterson and the Board of Trustees ceremonially broke ground on the new expansion of Crosby High School. The new academic wing and additional CTE labs will increase classroom/lab space by 50% at CHS. The projects are funded by monies from the 2017 voter-approved bond. Completion date: Fall 2025. The CHS expansion is the first major construction project in Crosby ISD in eight years.

July 25, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Crosby/Barrett Station community members are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of Crosby High School. The ceremony will be Monday, July 29, 2024, at 6pm. Parking is available at the baseball/softball complex behind CHS. The new academic wing and CTE space are expected to open in late 2025.

July 16, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Heavy-duty construction equipment has start to move earth behind Crosby High School to make way for a new academic wing and additional CTE (Career and Technical Education) labs.
March 7, 2024 Update
March 7, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Today, Superintendent Patterson and members of the Operations and Finance teams went over the final floor plan review for the expansion of Crosby High School.
Program Manager representative, Robert Arcement with Lockwood, Andrews, and Newnam, reviewed the changes made to schematic drawings. The new academic wing will feature two floors, each with 16 classrooms and 4 labs, for a total of 32 classrooms and 8 labs. The CTE section of Crosby High School will also be expanded to the south side of Crosby High School.
The review process during the last few months was able to add 4 classrooms to the original plans, by reducing unnecessary collaborative and flex spaces. 4 additional classrooms is room for approximately 100 additional students. In total, the CHS expansion will provide room for 900 additional students.
The CHS expansion project will go out for construction bids in the next few weeks, followed by final approval by the Board of Trustees. Construction is expected to begin in June with completion in November 2025.
