Spring Salute 2025

Crosby, TX (April 29, 2025) - The Crosby ISD Board of Trustees held the annual Spring Salute to wrap up the school year. The Board and Superintendent Dr. Patterson wanted to shine the spotlight on students who've accomplished so much over the past school year.
STUDENT COUNCIL

The Crosby High School Student Council grew in size this school year with 144 official members. It was a very memorable year. The students worked hard to put together a great Homecoming Week, and they planned and executed our 2nd Holiday Community Movie night at the stadium that was a great success. Students volunteered for many events around the school and community, including the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, the Veteran's Day Program, and the Colleen Walker Relays. It was an amazing year for CHS StuCo and we are hoping next year is even better!
SPELLING BEE WINNERS

Tonight, we want to recognize some very special elementary school students. We have with us the top 2 spelling bee finishers at each campus.
- From Barrett Elementary School, Emma Roscom and Urias Klish.
- From Crosby Elementary School, Wade Curry and Camila Izaguirre.
- From Drew Elementary School, Kassandra Arellano and Juan Perea.
- From Newport Elementary School, Rose Holloway and Julian Orozco.
These eight students competed in the district spelling bee on Thursday, February 6. Kassandra Arellano, a 5th grader from Drew Elementary, correctly spelled “buzzard” to advance to the Houston Regional spelling bee. The district spelling bee went to 13 rounds with students spelling such words as “amnesia,” “teriyaki,” gargoyles”, “haberdasher,” and “crescendo.” Great job kids!
SOFTBALL

The Crosby Softball team finished the regular season strong with a 17-6 record and defeated A & M Consolidated in the Bi District round of Playoffs. They will next face Angleton in the Second Round of the playoffs on Thursday and Friday of this week.
This softball team dominated district play, going 11-1 and capturing the district championship. This is the program's first district title in 21 years and only the fifth in school history. Led by a balanced lineup and gritty pitching, the team showed resilience and consistency all season. Twelve players and both team managers earned Academic All District honors, proving excellence on and off the field. All four seniors along with Coach Fox, Coach Foster and Coach Henderson were selected to play and coach in the Southeast Texas Coach's Association All Star Game to be played June 4. Coach Fox also wants to thank managers Lilly Mooneyham and Kali Mason for being huge supporters of the team.
Congratulations to pitcher Tori Dahnke, who earned her 400th career strikeout on Friday night.
Congratulations also to Head Coach Troy Fox, who secured the 300th win of his coaching career this year.
Good Luck, Cougars in the playoffs!!
BASEBALL

This season has been a new type of season for us all. We had alot of questions going into the season with a really tough schedule. Our guys have competed really hard to make the coaching decisions tough to make. They’re a very resilient group and this week, the team begins the first round of the playoffs on Thursday and Friday against College Station High School. We cannot wait to see where the rest of this season brings us!
This school year, this team has recorded nearly 300 hours of community service. Most recently, the team helped the Special Education Department clean up after the Coleen Walker Relays, saving the Special Ed employees hours of labor. Additional great news is that the team has maintained a 91.2 collective GPA. Coach McMurry writes: "Our baseball family continues to grind and do for others! So thankful I get to lead this baseball family. WE could not have this success without the proper teamwork from so many people." The team would like to mention the following folks as helping hands: CISD Trustee Phillip Chapman, Courtney Chapman, Coach Buescher, Coach Hellums, and Coach Rogers. Coach McMurry ends his thanks with the team motto "SISU," meaning process, progress, and toughness.
POWERLIFTING

Coach Dubose and all of us at Crosby ISD are incredibly proud of our high school powerlifting team, both boys and girls, for an amazing season! These student-athletes have shown what it means to push limits, support one another, and grow stronger together. The team has worked hard and earned well-deserved recognition, including one of our standout female lifters who advanced to the state championship and broke a regional bench press record in her division! Junior Kayleigh Bowling has gone to state 3 years in a row, and we can’t wait to see what she does next year. We also had several lifters who will be returning next year who were participating for the first time and competed very well in our 1st year in the Beaumont Westbrook League. Congratulations to all of our lifters for representing our school with pride!
BOYS BASKETBALL

Coach Egans and everyone here at Crosby ISD wants to thank the parents and families who helped support the boys basketball program this year. Although the basketball season didn’t end with a deep playoff run as the team expected, the coaching staff were extremely proud of how the players competed to the very end. These players achieved many team and individual accomplishments such as:
TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Ø 18-5A District Championship
Ø District 83% Win Percentage
Ø Won 21 of 34 games; Overall 62% Win Percentage
INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Ø Evan Egans: Offensive MVP and 1st Team All-District
Ø Tyler Eaden: 1st Team All-District
Ø Phillip Jackson: 1st Team All-District
Ø Rylan Anderson: 2nd Team All-District
The future of the basketball program is bright due to all four teams competing the season ranked in the top four of the district standings.
GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Crosby High School Girls Basketball Program celebrated a successful season, highlighted by three program sweeps in district play and several standout individual achievements. Lamaya Clark reached 1,000 career points and was named District 18 Defensive Player of the Year, while Romareya Lister and Jasmine Zapata earned spots on the District 18 First Team All-District. The Lady Cougars went 10-2 in district, finishing as Co-District Champs—a milestone the program hadn’t reached in three years. Kaitlyn Daniels, Emony Destin, and Chloe Jones received Honorable Mentions, while Kaitlyn Daniels, Laila McCall, and Jasmine Zapata were also recognized on the District 18 Academic All-District Team, with Jasmine earning a spot on the THSCA Academic All-State Second Team. Coach Luton says these young women showed resilience, effort, and commitment to excellence both on and off the court all season long. Great work!
SWIM

The Crosby swim team had another successful season in the pool. Each swimmer qualified for the regional meet in either an individual event, relay, or both, building on the success of the program from last year. Most importantly, the swim team doubled in size during the 24-25 competition season and swimmers represented Crosby High School well. With no seniors on the team this year Crosby swim is looking to have another successful year in 2025-26. We thank Coach Rogers for his dedication and congratulations to all these swimmers.
CULINARY ARTS

The Crosby High School Culinary Arts students standing here represent future chefs, restaurateurs, or home cooks. All 19 seniors and 17 juniors in the program this year were ServeSafe Manager Certified! One senior has been accepted to the “Lenotre Culinary Institute,” a prestigious chef school in Houston. 3 other seniors have been accepted into the culinary arts program at San Jacinto College.
The program is also a critical partner in community outreach. Student-chefs enhanced our community partnerships through catering events, such as the Open House for the new Cedar Pointe development on Runneburg and students also catered the Methodist Church Conference. On May 13th, our students will host the CARTA organization for lunch. The group represents retired educators in Crosby, and for the second year, our students will provide them with a delicious meal to thank them for their continued dedication to our district.

The culinary arts program has truly flourished under the direction of Chef Vasso Espinosa, who is retiring this year after 21 years in education and the last 7 years here in Crosby ISD. Congrats chef for creating a fully-functional, student-run restaurant and catering operation.
ROBOTICS

This season, the Crosby High School Robotics Team encountered some challenges along the way. However, we worked out the issues through persistence, teamwork, and problem-solving before our next competition. Our robot performed flawlessly at that event, and we finished as finalists, placing second overall. In the world of robotics, this is a significant accomplishment and a true testament to how far we’ve come. We’re incredibly thankful to all the parents whose support made this journey possible. We also want to thank Ms. Pool, for balancing her role as the district CTE Coordinator with the responsibilities of after-school robotics prep.
THEATRE ARTS

This year has been an incredible season for the Crosby High School theatre department. Our senior students earned numerous scholarships at conferences in the fall, including the Texas Thespians Convention and the Texas Educational Theatre Association conference. Our UIL One Act Play, The King Stag, earned several awards, including 1st place at district, with multiple students recognized for their performances and technical work. We also made our mark beyond the stage, winning 1st place in performance at the 38th annual Houston Art Car Parade. Our program is thriving, and we’re proud to see our students growing, excelling, and being celebrated for their talent and dedication! We want to say thank you to Mr. Blanchard and Ms. Jones for their hard work. Everyone is invited to see the Theatre’s double feature Spring Show on May 7th right here.
BASS CLUB

We’d now like to take a moment to recognize the dedication, sportsmanship, and passion shown by the members of our Bass Club. Whether it was early mornings on the water, tough competition days, or time spent mentoring each other, every one of you has contributed to a remarkable season. We’re proud to share that we took six teams to Regionals, a huge accomplishment that reflects the strength and depth of our club. Even more exciting, our team finished 4th overall in the Bayou City Division — and we're sending one team to the State Tournament, while another advances to the prestigious Angler of the Year Tournament. These certificates are a token of appreciation for your hard work, commitment, and teamwork throughout the season. We want to say thank you to Ms. Ivey for balancing her teaching duties at Crosby Middle School with being the new sponsor of Bass Club. Let’s give a big round of applause to our Bass Club members!
GOLF

We also want to salute the seniors on the boys and girls golf teams.
Miah Chase. A talented senior golfer known for her fierce competitive drive on the course and the classroom. Miah’s passion for golf is matched only by her inspiration to be one of the top students at Crosby High School graduating class. Miah competed at the Regional Championships by qualifying 5th place overall as an individual in the 18-5A District Championship. She will proudly be attending Texas Tech in the fall of 2025!
On the boys team, seniors include:
Noah Costlow
George Scott
Connor Nelson
They earned the prestigious District Runner-Up as a Team for District 18-5A, demonstrating their teamwork and dedication to the sport. At the Regional Championship, they competed fiercely, finishing an impressive 8th place overall from 63 schools in the region. These young athletes have not only honed their golfing skills but also cultivated a strong bond as teammates. With their passion for the game and each other, they are eager to graduate and take all they have learned into the world.
Coach Courtney wanted us to add that as a bonus, this is the first time in school history that both the girls and boys Golf programs were represented at the Regional Championship in the same season! An absolutely awesome accomplishment from the Crosby Cougar Golf Program!!
GIRLS SOCCER

The Lady Cougars soccer team had an outstanding 24-25 season. They were undefeated district champs in a season in which they only allowed 4 goals and scored 78 points in twelve district games. In addition to being district champs, the Lady Cougars also defeated College Station and secured a Bi-District Championship. Defensively, the Coogs were dominant with 16 shutouts on the year. That means that over half of the games played, they didn’t give up a single goal. Offensively, the Lady Cougars were just as impressive tallying 134 goals and 96 assists in a single season.
The Lady Cougars were also well represented by the district accolades they received which included 14 players making the Academic All-District team, two Honorable Mention, five 2nd team, five 1st team All-District players being selected, and two superlatives.
Honorable Mention: Evelyn Roman and Ava Doskocil
2nd Team All District: Molly Ipock; Jasmine Gaytan; Hannah Washington; Paisley Harlien; and Jamilet Hernadez

MOBILE SCHOOL MARKET FOOD DRIVE

Now in its second year of implementation, the Crosby ISD Mobile School Market has proudly served over 110,000 pounds of food to the households in our community. This initiative continues to provide essential food and household resources to families in our community, reinforcing our district’s commitment to supporting the whole child through access, equity, and care beyond the classroom. We are incredibly proud of Mrs. Katrina White, Mrs. Laura Richard, Mr. Martin Miller, and all members of our Maintenance Department for their unwavering dedication and hard work in making this program a success. Most of all, we celebrate our shining stars—the students—whose involvement and enthusiasm truly bring the heart and purpose of the School Market to life.
We are also deeply grateful for the growing support from our community partners. Organizations like the Astros Foundation, LyondellBasell, and the San Jacinto College Baseball Team have joined us in this effort, providing resources, volunteers, and encouragement that have helped expand the reach and impact of the School Market. VOLUNTEERS FOR COLEEN WALKER RELAYS

Finally, we want to celebrate what is always one of the best days of the year in Crosby ISD. The Coleen Walker Relays. We are so proud of our students and the Crosby ISD Special Education Department for hosting a wonderful day celebrating children of all skill levels on April 8. They transformed Cougar Stadium into a field of dreams for 305 students from Crosby ISD and Huffman ISD. Those student-athletes were mentored by nearly 500 student-volunteers. Of those 500 student-volunteers, 335 were Crosby High School students, demonstrating our “Portrait of a Graduate.” They spent the day assisting younger students playing ball, dashing through obstacle courses, face painting, and so much more. It was a great day for the kids to do things they may not otherwise get to do.
Tonight, we have teachers from each of the Special Education classes representing their student-athletes along with Coach Marek who is a huge help on the big day
The relays are named after late Crosby High School LifeSkills teacher, Ms. Coleen Walker. She helped coach future teachers, and she was an advocate for education for all. Her legacy played out in an amazing way this month. We also appreciate the community businesses who helped sponsor the event. We can’t wait until next year.
Thank you everyone for your hard work and dedication.
