Hello Crosby ISD Family,
We wanted to take a moment to share our inclement weather notification plan. Severe weather can come in many ways: from flooding rains to paralyzing freezes and even long-term power outages. Remember, take care of you and your family first and foremost.
DECISION TO CLOSE SCHOOLS
Superintendent of schools – Mrs. Paula Patterson – may close schools and offices due to inclement weather or emergencies.
When a decision is made to close or delay schools, families of students and staff members will be the first to know.
HOW NOTIFICATIONS WILL WORK
- You will receive a call, an email, and a text from the district. (Now is a good time to make sure all contact information and phone numbers are up to date in Skyward.)
- An alert will be posted on our website https://www.crosbyisd.org/
- Alerts will be posted on official district social media accounts.
- News media will also have the announcement. (Most TV stations put school closing announcements on the bottom of the screen.)
- We ask families to rely only on official communication from the district. Misinformation can spread quickly on social media.
SEVERE WEATHER PROCEDURES DURING SCHOOL DAY
Our goal is to keep our staff and students safe and informed during inclement weather.
When a tornado or thunderstorm WATCH is issued, Crosby ISD will continue normal activities indoors.
Students and staff will remain in school during a TORNADO WARNING in pre-designated safe areas until the warning is cancelled.
Students and staff will remain in school during a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING. If conditions worsen, principals may direct students and staff to pre-designated safety areas until the severe weather passes.
EARLY DISMISSAL DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER/FLOODING
In some rare instances, closing school early during the day is best to get children home safely before severe weather or flooding begins.
Every attempt will be made to avoid dismissing students early, but in these rare cases, as much advance notice as possible will be given to parents and staff.
The notification process will be the same as above.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AT HOME
Emergencies can disrupt or have a serious effect on all our families, friends, and neighbors.
This is why preparedness is key.

Queríamos tomarnos un momento para compartir nuestro plan de notificación de inclemencias del tiempo. PROCEDIMIENTOS DE CLIMA SEVERO DURANTE EL DÍA ESCOLAR
Nuestro objetivo es mantener a nuestro personal y estudiantes seguros e informados durante las inclemencias del tiempo.
Cuando se emite una VIGILANCIA de tornado o tormenta, Crosby ISD continuará con sus actividades normales en el interior.
Los estudiantes y el personal permanecerán en la escuela durante una ADVERTENCIA DE TORNADO en áreas seguras previamente designadas hasta que se cancele la advertencia.
Los estudiantes y el personal permanecerán en la escuela durante una ADVERTENCIA DE TORMENTA SEVERA. Si las condiciones empeoran, los directores pueden dirigir a los estudiantes y al personal a áreas de seguridad previamente designadas hasta que pase el clima severo.
SALIDA TEMPRANA DEBIDO A CLIMA SEVERO / INUNDACIONES
En algunos casos raros, cerrar la escuela temprano durante el día es mejor para que los niños regresen a casa de manera segura antes de que comiencen las inclemencias del tiempo o las inundaciones.
Se hará todo lo posible para evitar que los estudiantes salgan temprano, pero en estos raros casos, se les avisará con la mayor anticipación posible a los padres y al personal.
El proceso de notificación será el mismo que el anterior.
