New Safety Protocols for the 2022-2023 School Year

We wanted to inform you that daily metal detector screenings will begin at Crosby High School and Crosby Middle School, starting the first day of school for the 2022-2023 Academic Year. The District has dedicated dozens of hours to researching safety and security protocols this summer. District leadership believes this is one of the best ways forward. We conducted a Community Safety and Security Survey for two weeks in June. The survey showed that 86% of parents supported daily security screenings utilizing metal detectors.

We understand it will take some time for our high school and middle school students to acclimate to security screenings each day. We are asking for everyone’s patience during this time, as we expect long lines. Please know that students will not be marked tardy if they are late for class due to the screenings.

Queríamos informarles que las pruebas diarias con detectores de metales comenzarán en Crosby High School y Crosby Middle School, a partir del primer día de clases del año académico 2022-2023. El Distrito ha dedicado docenas de horas investigando protocolos de seguridad y protección este verano. El liderazgo del distrito cree que esta es una de las mejores formas de avanzar. Llevamos a cabo una Encuesta de seguridad y protección de la comunidad durante dos semanas en junio. La encuesta mostró que el 86% de los padres apoyaron los controles de seguridad diarios utilizando detectores de metales.

Crosby High School
Parents/Guardians, we wanted to outline the processes for the security screenings that will begin the first day of school Thursday, August 11th. Students will be subject to metal detector screenings as they enter the building.
There will be 4 screening areas:
Front lobby opens at 6:15am. Car riders and drivers are asked to use this entrance.
Bus riders will enter through a designated area in the rear of CHS. This screening area will open at 6:40am.
Athletics and specialty bags such as cheer and band will need to be brought to the checkpoint at the Athletic wing. This screening area opens at 6:40am. (If a student with a specialty bag arrives before 6:40am, please check your bag at the front lobby screening area. Bus riders will check their specialty bags at the bus rider entrance).
The fourth entrance is for LifeSkills students only.
To make this process run as smoothly as possible, we encourage students to empty everything from their pockets and place all objects into their backpack, including cell phones. Students are also encouraged to remove belts and watches before going through the metal detectors. Students should not remove their shoes. Backpacks must be clear or mesh.
If students are not cleared by the metal detectors, they will receive a secondary screening by an administrator. This will involve the use of a handheld screening wand.
All adults who enter the building will be screened throughout the day in the front lobby. All students who leave and return during the day will be screened again.
Please see the attached map which illustrates which screening areas are designed for certain students.
Please also take a look at this video explaining how students will walk through the detectors, and if necessary, receive a secondary screening.
We appreciate your patience during the first weeks of school as we establish this new security routine.
Padres/Tutores de Crosby High School, queríamos delinear los procesos para los controles de seguridad que comenzarán el primer día de clases el jueves 11 de agosto . Los estudiantes estarán sujetos a controles de detección de metales al entrar al edificio.
Habrá 4 áreas de proyección:
El vestíbulo delantero abre a las 6:15 am Se les pide a los conductores y pasajeros de automóviles que usen esta entrada.
Los pasajeros del autobús ingresarán por un área designada en la parte trasera de CHS. Esta área de proyección se abrirá a las 6:40 am.
