Read to the Final Four Literacy Rally
Crosby, TX (November 14, 2022) – Crosby ISD invited more than 400 third graders from across the District to Crosby High School for a giant literacy rally. The students celebrated the tipoff to the Read To The Final Four, a bracket-style reading competition.
CISD third graders from Newport, Drew, Barrett, and Crosby Elementary Schools will log their time spent reading books between November 7 and December 11.
They will compete against schools in 10 other districts and a total of 37,000 other third graders. The goal is to make it to the top 68 teams announced in January.
Crosby ISD Superintendent, Mrs. Paula Patterson, rallied the students by telling them the way to win is to "Read, and read, and read some more!"
The day was filled with games and activities to get students excited about reading. The rally included a big finale with performances by the Crosby High School choir, band, cheerleaders, and dance team, the Cougar Stars.
One of the activation stations included a reading corner with Texans Legend, Wade Smith. He read from his book entitled "Smitty Tackles Bullying." Mr. Smith answered great questions from students and encouraged them all to help others and spread kindness everywhere they go.
The annual literacy initiative is led by the 2023 NCAA® Men’s Final Four and Houston Local Organizing Committee (HLOC).
