Crosby, TX (February 1, 2023) - Congratulations to Crosby High School Senior Shelby Kouba for winning a $2500 scholarship from KPRC2 and American Furniture Warehouse. Channel 2 visited Crosby High School last week to surprise Shelby. Her family was there along with CHS administrators and Crosby ISD Superintendent Patterson. Shelby is the president of the Crosby FFA chapter and a member of the Superintendent's Cougar Council.

Shelby wrote the following essay to be eligible for the scholarship:
"For over ten thousand years, the agricultural industry has been a staple for society’s survival, population growth, and economic development. Today, the agricultural industry feeds over 7 billion people, creates jobs for over 1 billion individuals, and generates $34.1 billion dollars across the globe. Seeing the firsthand impact of agriculture through the FFA, I have decided to dedicate my life to it by attending Texas A&M University to major in Agribusiness and minor in Agricultural Communications with intentions of becoming a public relations manager for the
food production industry. Obtaining the KPRC 2/American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship contributes greatly to my educational aspirations. Considered one of the top schools in the nation for agricultural study avenues with various research facilities, leadership organizations, and award-winning educators, Texas A&M College of Agriculture & Life Sciences will provide the knowledge, leadership
skills, and background for me to become an advocate for enlightening society on the methods and viability of agriculture. Receiving this scholarship would financially support my academic and career development so that I may contribute to the industry that feeds and sustains our society. The financial support KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse would provide for my family would alleviate some of the burden of paying both my sister’s and my college expenditures as we each begin our first semester at two major Texas universities in the fall of 2023. My employment while attending college will be crucial in paying for my education, but receiving this scholarship will allow me more time for studious endeavors. It is an honor to be nominated for the esteemed KPRC 2/American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship opportunity, and I ask your consideration of support in furthering my college education in support of my future career."
