September 10, 2024 (Crosby, TX) - Crosby ISD shared big news regarding academic achievements by Crosby High School students. 20 students or gradates were named AP Scholars or honored by College Board National Recognition Programs.

Thirteen (13) CHS students or graduates have been named 2024 AP Scholars. The list includes 6 graduates from the Class of 2024, and 7 current CHS students. AP Scholar is an honor for students who demonstrate outstanding achievement through high-level performance in multiple AP Exams.

The AP Scholars designation is based on AP Exams given in May each year, at the end of the college-level course. Each course and exam is modeled on introductory college courses. The students listed below include their grade level in the 2024-25 School Year. The AP Program run by the College Board announces honorees each fall.

Award Definitions:

AP Scholar

Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Honor

Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction

Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Also celebrating are students at Crosby High School who earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance. The academic honors are for rural area, Black, Indigenous, Latino and/or First Generation students. The awards are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent.

Nineteen (19) Crosby High School students received the following honors: Trinity Cook-Thompson, Kaitlyn Daniels, and JaShara Pendleton earned the National African American Recognition Award; Isabella Quintanilla Gaytan, Oscar Vazquez, and Julian Zapata earned the National Hispanic Recognition Award; Trinity Cook-Thompson, Braden Hicks, Gabriella Oates, Molly Ipock, Thomas Jackson, Abigail Seale, Oscar Vazquez, and Julian Zapata earned the National Rural and Small Town Award; and Braden Hicks, Allison LeJeune, Gabriella Oates, Isabella Quintanilla Gaytan, and Oscar Vazquez earned the National First Generation Award.

"We could not be prouder of what our students and graduates have accomplished," said Crosby High School Principal, Mr. Brad Hadnot. “We’re proud of our students’ strong academic performance in the classroom and on College Board assessments like the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, and AP® exams. We can't wait to see how far they go here at CHS and in life."

The criteria for eligible students include:

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 assessment scores that are within the top 10% of assessment takers in each state for each award program or earned a score of 3 or higher on 2 or more AP Exams in 9th and 10th grade.
  • Attend school in a rural area or small town, or identify as African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino, or Indigenous/Native.
  • The first-generation program is new this year. If one or both student’s parents do not have a bachelor’s degree, the student can qualify as first generation.  

Congratulations to these outstanding Crosby High School students and graduates. We can't wait to see what our current seniors achieve in the 2024-2025 School Year.
